How to make new friends?

My son had extensive cancer treatment as a child and is a little different due to that, he wears braces on his legs and goes to the bathroom differently, he also loves talking about nature and is very friendly. He's 6 years old and sweet and funny but he has no friends, we make friends at parks exchange numbers but I always get busy responses when I try to set up something. He never gets any invites to birthdays or any messages from any other kids to join him for anything, he attends a public school in Katy and is always happy when he comes home so I know he's not bullied or anything. How can I help him make some friends?
